I have access to two GPMG's (general perpose machine gun) and about thrity SA80's.
They are fully opperational machine guns that I may have the opportunity to use soon. The problem is that to use them as automatic weapons when firing blanks you have to have one of those annoying yellow things on the end so that they can cock themselves each time they are fired. Does anyone know where I can buy solid barrels for guns like these, or the appropriate muzzles that won't make my film look like an episode of Soldier Soldier.

when you use real guns like the SA-80 on training, as they are real guns and the barrels are not blocked, what happens when you fire blanks with these things they fire out a lot of hot carbon which builds up and what ever other crap is down the barrel , the BFA is to stop this crap flying forwards as it can still kill someone up to about 20 metres. the BFA stops this and in theory is meant to send the crap downwards left and right a very short distance in lots of tiny pieces instead of a lump , but what happens is you just get a ton of crap on that which needs cleaning.

I would be most interested to hear where you were able to get your hands on thirty SA-80 and 2 GPMG's , also be more interested to know where your going to get your blanks from as the SA-80 and the GPMG both fire 5.56 rounds which it is military and police use only.

Also lol, the reason the Sa-80 and GPMG is automatic, if you look under teh top cover there are Gas parts, thats not canister! when the guin is fired the bold it pushed forward on a spring the gass part is a piston which springs the working parts back, picking up the next round and cocking the gun, You need a BFA otherwise there wouldnt be enough pressure for this to happen well gamble really, Stage and tV guns are adapted big time , unless your talking about the L98 which is the cadet version which cant be made automatic as they are old SA-80 with all those parts remvoved.

finall i, blocked barrells would be interesting a well condsidering the SA-80 barrel is connected straight to the chamber, also you would blow yourself up, as theres only an ejection chamber for the rounds not the blast.

Thanks for the tip, I'm sure that the BFA is not there just to deflect the discharge and that they do allow you to use the guns as automatic weapons, which is why I have used the simpler model which is not used by the army because it is bolt action, (can't remember whta it is called) without one. There is a lot of crap that comes out of them, (I have been burnt by it) but you don't have to use a yellow thing except for semi and automatic firing. I didn't know that you cannot get solid barrels for the SA80, but I have used them on GPMG's.
I have dismatled and reasenbled these guns many times and i think you misunderstand how the system under the top works. It can only be used in conjunction with a live round or a blank plus BFA or in the case of a GPMG, with a solid barrel. I was always under the impression that it is the live round that re cocks the weapon and with blank amunition this does not happen because nothing has left the barrel.

To answer your question, the guns are all owned by my old college Corp department who have agreed to help with my film. We use ammunition supplied by the army as well as other weapons.

P.S, I've always thought it stupid that they are called 'general purpose' as though you are going to do anything other than shoot people with it!

I think your only option is to ad sounds in post production.

Although this isn't much fun. Plus, its pretty easy to tell that the guns aren't actually firing.

memories slipping, also that came out slightly wrong. when you fire the round its the force of pressure from the round fired that forces the doobrie, as blank rounds have less charge it doesnt cause so much pressure, hence the BFA as i said in orig postm as this creates more pressure in the barrell as theres less air on the outside or inside one or the other,(dont really get pressure) BUT im pretty sure you can sometimes get away without a BFA but you get jams frequently, and i dont know if you ever come across, cant remember what it is called somethign like SAWS(sight attached weapon system) or LAWS(Lazer attached wespon system) somethign like that. im pretty sure when we used that we didnt have BFA's but thats properly memory for you.

before anyone accuses me of being a gun freak, i would just like do defend myelf. The only people that that think that running around firing blanks at each other is sad and a waste time, are people that have'nt done it.
